Scholarships Presented At Student Research Symposium

More than 150 students presented Monday at Missouri Valley College’s Spring 2024 Student Research Symposium, setting a record for participation. The symposium, now in its 8th year, featured academic, creative and professional student work.

The event culminated with the presentation of four $500 scholarships to the Excellence in Student Research Winners. They are:

Best Poster: Kilee Bradley Robinson for “The Effect of Parenting Styles on College Students Academic Success and Mental Well-Being”

Best Presentation: Yago Merino for “Population Demography of Pond Turtles in Mid-Missouri Farm Ponds”

Best Creative Works: Chane Higgo for “Formula 1 Brandalism”

Best Graduate Research: Mackenzie Murphree for “I don’t know how I got here.”

“The Symposium was incredible,” said President Joe Parisi. “Kudos to all of our students who worked so hard to prepare. And I can’t say enough about the staff and volunteers who made it happen.”

Raul Hinjosa Mesa (pictured on the right with Dr. Claire Schmidt and President Joe Parisi) received the People’s Choice Award for “Patellar Tendinopathy Injury” and Mariona Bolao Manen received the Gruber Award for hoer honors English thesis “’Big Reputations’ A Queer Lyrical Analysis of reputation and Taylor Swift’s relationship with Karlie Kloss.”

In Best Poster, Alyssa Hardwick for ‘Classroom Assessment”, Mackenzie Aguilar for “Does Growing Up in an Unstable Environment Make Kids More Aggressive?”, and Jeanie Palsis for “Student Debt Affecting College Students Academic Performance and Mental Health.”

In Best Presentation, Angelique Morgan for “Population Ecology of Turtles Inhabiting Mid-Missouri Farm Ponds,” and Morgan Osborne for “An Educational Model on the Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia.”

In Best Creative Works, Estefano Del Aguila Delgado for “From Novice to Nature’s Glimpses: A Photographer’s Tale,” and DeRel Morris for “Who Are You Truly? Act II.”
