Missouri Valley College celebrated the installation of Dr. Joseph A. Parisi as its 14th president on Thursday with an outdoor installation ceremony at Gregg-Mitchell Field on campus. Students, faculty, staff, community leaders, trustees, and visiting college presidents welcomed the new president.

Parisi thanked all who attended, including a strong contingent of veterans and members of the military.

“It’s a new day at Valley,” said Parisi, as he challenged students to be the best and to do something every day to achieve their goals.

”Let today mark a new day not only for your new president, but for you and your future,” Parisi said. “Ask yourself whether you have given everything you have to invest in your future. I will be here pushing, and supporting your efforts every. Single. Day.” Parisi said.

Marshall Mayor Vince Lutterbie delivered greetings on behalf of the community. Others greeting came from Eva Agcaoili, student government president; Marsha Lashley, Valley’s longest-serving staff member; Dr. Claire Schmidt, a member of the faculty; and Katie Shannon, who spoke on behalf of the alumni.

Missouri Valley College’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Matt Huston, presented Parisi with the President’s Medallion just prior to a rifle salute by the Missouri National Guard. The crowd was entertained by the Bear Brass, an ensemble from the Missouri National Guard’s 135th Army Band. Colors were presented by Whiteman Air Force Base, and a local group of American Legion members had seats of honor.
