MVC Receives $300,000 Grant from Sunderland Foundation
Missouri Valley College President Dr. Bonnie Humphrey has announced that the Sunderland Foundation has approved the College’s grant request for $300,000 to support the construction of a new health professions building on the Missouri Valley campus.
“I am pleased to be able to announce this second Sunderland Foundation grant award,” said Humphrey. “This grant allowed us to complete our funding for the new health professionals building. We are so thankful to the Sunderland Foundation for their continued support of Missouri Valley College.”
The plans include building a 16,300 square foot facility on the campus of Missouri Valley College. The building is designed to be used for not only nursing classes, but to also be available for health-related programs that will be developed in the future. The College is so grateful to Fitzgibbon Hospital for providing the space that has housed the MVC School of Nursing for the last several years. The program has simply outgrown the space. Plans are in place to break ground in the coming weeks.
The Sunderland Foundation has previously approved a 1 million dollar grant for Missouri Valley College, also to be used to support the construction of the new health professions building.
The Sunderland Foundation was established in 1945 by Lester T. Sunderland, who served as President of the Ash Grove Cement Company for 33 years as a highly respected leader in the cement industry.
Since its inception, the Foundation, which continues to be led by Lester T. Sunderland’s descendants, has focused primarily on supporting construction projects, awarding grants to nonprofits in the Kansas City region and several other markets traditionally served by the Ash Grove Cement Company.
