MVC Music Department to Present Annual Spring Music Concert
The Missouri Valley College Music Department will present their annual Spring Music Concert on April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.
The concert will feature the MVC Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Aaron T. Wacker and the MVC Concert Choir, under the direction of Ryan Hampton. Professors Diana Malan on piano and Kristine Poulsen on flute will accompany the choir. The MVC Concert Band will open the program and will include a mixture of high school students, college students, faculty and community members.
“By making this ensemble a pseudo community group, it gives our students the opportunity to play in a larger traditional band,” said Dr. Wacker, assistant professor of instrumental music. “This also gives high school students an opportunity to work with our wonderful faculty and students at MVC.”
The concert will conclude with a performance by the MVC Concert Choir.
“All of the choral pieces during the concert deal with topics related to the life cycle, including growing up, facing and overcoming serious challenges and dealing with death,” said Ryan Hampton, assistant professor of vocal music. “Many of the choral works are by prominent composers and arrangers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.”
