MVC Debate and Forensics Team Defeats Kentucky and Tennessee; Falls to Yale in Close Contest
The Missouri Valley College Debate and Forensics team competed at the first ever College Public Forum League National Tournament April 9-10. MVC defeated the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee on the way to the debate tournament final, eventually falling to Yale in a close contest.
Eva Agcaoili and Camden Phillips made it to the finals round and took second place behind the team from Yale University. Cuauhtemoc Olvera and Evan Tindle also made it to elimination rounds, taking third place overall at the tournament.
“Having three of the top five teams in the country in Public Forum debate in this very new league was an incredibly rewarding experience and helped to cement Missouri Valley’s place in the debate scene,” said MVC Debate Coach David Bowers.
At the NFA National Awards Ceremony Camden Phillips was named seventh place speaker in the nation out of nearly 100 other debaters from higher education institutions of every size.
The Missouri Valley College Debate and Forensics team will be hosting a college and high school camp on campus this summer. To learn more about the camps or the MVC Debate and Forensics team, contact Coach Bowers at bowersd@moval.edu.
