Missouri Valley College’s School of Nursing has received approval from the Higher Learning Commission to offer a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN, FNP). The program, which is set to begin in January 2021, will be offered online.

To apply, applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and an unencumbered RN License. Applicants can transfer Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice, Pharmacology for Advanced Nursing Practice, and Advanced Health Assessment if they have taken these courses within the last three years; these courses are not a requirement for applicants as they are part of the curriculum. The program application due date is October 15, 2020.

“Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are viewed as leaders/clinicians capable of caring for patients across the lifespan with both chronic and acute needs,” said Dr. Peggy Van Dyke, dean of the MVC School of Nursing. “NPs are in demand and their services are expected to grow as patients are living longer and requiring more medical care. In addition, there is a shortage of primary care physicians across the nation. In this rapidly changing healthcare arena, choosing to become an NP can be a wise investment for your career. As an NP, you will have increased job opportunities, responsibility, earning potential, autonomy, and a more flexible/conducive working schedule. You can work as part of a primary health care team dedicated to  improving health outcomes while making care more accessible and more cost-effective.”

In addition to the newly approved MSN program, the MVC School of Nursing offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) to BSN face-to-face program, and an LPN to BSN online track. Graduates from this new program will be eligible to sit for the American Association of Colleges for Nursing (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification exam. The programs of Missouri Valley College School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE). The prelicensure program is fully approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
