MVC Students Big Winners At Broadcast Competition
Missouri Valley College students continued their dominance of the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA) College Media Competition awards this year. The competition is held annually to showcase individual accomplishments and group projects.
Students from MVC competed against a dozen other Missouri colleges and pulled in a record number of awards this year – 12 total – including an astounding seventh consecutive year winning the multi-camera live sporting event category. The honors will be presented March 31-April 1 at the spring MBEA awards ceremony and conference in Cape Girardeau.
There were five other first-place awards for Missouri Valley:
Zaire Hardin won the category for best commercial; Austin Bohlen was first in the hard news category, first in Special Music Programming, and sports play by play; and Colin Williams was first with best Public Service Announcement. There was also a team win for best non-recurring news show.
Other top performers included Sakina Komuro and Cody Hohenberger for their honorable mentions in the best commercial category; Bohlen’s second place for hard news; and Hohenberger’s two third place finishes in the hard news and PSA categories.
Hohenberger graduated in December and works for a TV station in South Carolina, and Bohlen, who will graduate in May, already works for KMMO in Marshall. He will be the voice of the Marshall Owls next year.
The students credit faculty members Chaz Maddi (video), Troy Hunt (radio), and Ken Kujawa (Viking Sports Network) for their training and continued success.
