Missouri Valley College administration released it’s “Fall 2020 Return to Campus Procedures and Guidelines.” There are many changes in the operations of nearly all campus offices and procedures, and the administration has worked with local, state, and national health organizations to ensure the safety of the campus community.

Students begin arriving on campus Monday, August 10, and student check-in will be staggered over six days in an effort to have fewer students arriving at one time so social distancing can be practiced. Students should have completed any registration forms online prior to their arrival on campus. Face coverings are required for all faculty, staff, and students in any space on campus except their personal residence or office (when alone in office).

There are changes to the format of class structures depending on the size and  location of the class. Small classes will proceed in a normal, face-to-face fashion (with social distance and face coverings) for all class sessions. Larger classes will be taught in a hybrid format, with students divided into groups. Each group will have face-to-face instruction in the classroom at least one day/week and remote synchronous instruction and/or asynchronous learning the remaining day(s) of the week.

Currently, the plan is to have athletic competitions, however, campus will be closed and no outside visitors will be allowed (only MVC students, faculty and staff members with MVC ID). MVC athletic officials continue to work with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) for return-to-play guidelines. Additionally, there will be no Viking Tailgate Zone on home game days. There will also be no visitors to any other campus facilities or classrooms.

“This fall semester will be unlike any other I’ve experienced during my 40 years in education,” said Dr. Bonnie Humphrey, MVC President. “My Cabinet members have worked diligently with faculty and staff to ensure the safest environment possible for our campus community. The Missouri Valley College campus is at its best when filled to the brim with students and as a community of learners working together toward a shared goal, which is to have a safe in-person fall semester.”

Graduate classes begin Tuesday, August 18 and undergraduate classes begin Thursday, August 20. There will be no fall break, and the semester will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 24 for a six week winter break.
