Missouri Sigma Chapter of Alpha Chi at MVC Awarded Star Chapter Status, Inducts New Members
For the fifth consecutive year, the Missouri Sigma chapter of Alpha Chi at Missouri Valley College has been awarded Star Chapter status for its scholarly activities and member recruitment during the 2018-2019 academic year. This distinction places Missouri Valley’s chapter among the top 15% of Alpha Chi chapters nationally. Star chapters must meet all of the following criteria: at least one sponsor and one student delegate must attend the annual national convention; at least one student must make a presentation at the annual national convention; the chapter must submit at least one nominee for a Nolle, Benedict, or Pryor scholarship during the academic year; the chapter must sponsor at least one scholarly/academic program during the academic year; new members must be inducted and registered during the academic year; and the annual chapter report must be filed with the National Office by September 1.
In addition to receiving Star Chapter status, the Missouri Sigma chapter of Alpha Chi at MVC inducted 16 new members into the honor society on November 1. The new members include Linn Andreassen, Clarence, Missouri; Jaclyn Leigh Davis, Warrensburg, Missouri; Elizabeth Dye, Marshall, Missouri; Chloe Ann Garzon, Marshall, Missouri; Jan Jedlička, Opava, Czech Republic; Said Jotar Ahmed, Ceuta, Spain; Makenzie Lake, Overland Park, Kansas; Jocelin Adriana Linares, Marshall, Missouri; Rachelle Marie Rogers, Sedalia, Missouri; Miyu Shito, Kitakami-shi, Japan; Yarden Silberman, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Danielle Sitzes, Cisne, Illinois; Sarah Marie Spiers, Eastvale, California; Hannah E. Spoonhower, New London, Missouri; Rachel Lee Taylor, Dodge Center, Minnesota; and Jared Zarate, Chandler, Arizona.
Participating in the initiation ceremony were Dr. Christopher Libby, Missouri Sigma chapter sponsor and associate professor of religion and philosophy; Dr. Andrew Linsenbart, Missouri Sigma chapter assistant sponsor and assistant professor of biology; and Rev. Pam Sebastian, college chaplain and assistant professor of religion. MVC President Dr. Bonnie Humphrey and Dr. Diane Bartholomew, vice president of academic affairs, were also in attendance.
Alpha Chi is a highly selective, national college academic honor society. Membership is by invitation only and limited to those who rank among the top 10% of juniors and seniors. The objectives of Alpha Chi are to promote and to recognize superior scholarship and those elements of character which make scholarship effective for service. The society, founded in 1922, has nearly 400 chapters. Membership is among the highest academic honors on campus.
