Kahmeyer ‘Unyieldingly Grateful’ for Faculty Award
Missouri Valley College math professor Liam Kahmeyer spent a few days in New Zealand recently as the recipient of Missouri Valley College’s 2024-2025 Faculty Professional Development Award.
Dr. Kahmeyer, who teaches in the School of Science and Agriculture, attended a mathematics conference December 9-13 at the University of Auckland. The conference was put on by the New Zealand Mathematical Society, the Australian Mathematical Society, and the American Mathematical Society. He presented in the special session “Early Career Showcase in Low-Dimensional Topology.”
Kahmeyer’s talk was based on his recent publication “A Homotopy Invariant of Image Simple Fold Maps to Oriented Surfaces.” The paper was published in the Journal of Singularities.
“I am unyieldingly grateful for the support and the opportunity,” said Kahmeyer, who teaches a variety of upper level math courses at MVC and also serves as the assistant tennis coach.
The faculty development award was established last year by President Joe Parisi to support the great work of MVC faculty members. Dr. Gerardo Acay, MVC professor emeritus and an adjunct instructor, was the inaugural recipient of the award last year.
