Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove Performs in Marshall Community
On Thursday, November 29 the Viking Learning Academy, Marshall Public Schools and Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove put on shows in the Marshall community. The first show was held in the morning and hosted by Missouri Valley College and the second show was held in the afternoon and hosted by Marshall Public Preschool.
The morning show was held in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre with about 140 children attending, while the afternoon show was held in the Spainhower building with about 250 children at the show. Preschool through kindergarten students were featured in the shows and both shows included Jim “Mr. Stinky Feet” Cosgrove. Jim Cosgrove does high-energy interactive shows geared towards families and children and has performed over 3,500 shows throughout his career, including two performances at the White House.
Associate Professor of Education Peggy Sherman wrote a grant last summer and was awarded money through the Optimist Club of Marshall. The Optimist Club offered grants to support local schools in the community, awarding $500 of grant money to winners of three different categories. The money awarded from this grant was for the early childhood/elementary (PK-4) category and was used to bring Jim Cosgrove to Marshall for these performances. This money was pooled with resources from the Marshall Public Schools Elementary PTO so that two shows could be offered to reach more children.
“I have been a fan of Jim Cosgrove for many years. He has been to our community several times and he always does an outstanding job. The children had a wonderful time, they danced and sang the entire hour. He has a positive message for students about choosing happiness and being active,” said Sherman. “We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to have “Mr. Stinky Feet” in our community. If it weren’t for the Optimist Club offering the grant funds, we wouldn’t have been able to offer a show like this. We’re very grateful and appreciative for their club and the support they offer to our young citizens.”
