Division of Fine Arts to Host High School Intensive Camp
Missouri Valley College’s Division of Fine Arts will host the Fine Arts High School Intensive: A College Experience Camp June 25-27, 2018 on the MVC campus.
The summer camp gives high school students the experience of majoring within Fine Arts while living on campus. Students will stay in Viking Village Apartments, eat in the dining hall and choose a fine arts major to study intensively over the three-day experience. Students will explore five different courses within their major, as well as one elective course from the other disciplines. They can choose from dance, music, theatre and visual arts and will study with Missouri Valley College faculty. There will also be group activity sessions in the evening for all students.
Courses that will be available in dance include modern, dance improvisation, choreography, ballet, dance history and introduction to dance technique. Courses that will be available in music include music theory, aural skills, music history, chamber music, music lessons and conducting. Courses that will be available in visual art include photography (darkroom), digital art (photoshop), drawing, painting, monoprinting and art history. Courses that will be available in theatre include movement for the stage, playwriting, acting Shakespeare, voice of the actor, auditioning and improvisation.
“We are very excited to start this summer intensive program where high school students will have the opportunity to experience what it would be like to study the fine arts in college,” said Janie Morgan, associate professor of dance.
The deadline to register is June 18. The cost for the camp is $350 for those registered by May 1 and $400 for those registered after May 1. Checks should be made payable to Missouri Valley College, HS Fine Arts Intensive and mailed to Missouri Valley College at 500 E. College Marshall, MO, with attention to Janie Morgan. The camp is eligible for high school students who have completed ninth grade or above.
