Deadline For Purple Patch Submissions March 15
The Nu Epsilon chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society, inducted new members Alexandrea Sutter and Chane’ Higgo on January 31 and announced the Spring Call for Submissions for Purple Patch, MVC’s literary and arts journal.
“We are really excited to welcome Alex and Chané to Sigma Tau Delta and to the editorial board of The Purple Patch,” said Mariona Bolao Manén, Sigma Tau Delta president. “We want to showcase Missouri Valley’s talented writers and artists and support their legacy. If making a difference through your art is something that sounds appealing to you, The Purple Patch is the way to go.”
The Purple Patch invites students to submit original artwork and writing, including poetry, short stories, academic essays, creative nonfiction, and hybrid works. The submission deadline is March 15. Submissions should be emailed as .doc or .pdf attachments to purplepatch@moval.edu.
“Membership in Sigma Tau Delta gives our students the opportunity to serve as editors and publishers of this unique and beautiful journal. But we can’t forget that our students are also active in Sigma Tau Delta at the national level, especially in presenting their work at the annual convention,” said Dr. Claire Schmidt, Sigma Tau Delta advisor. “Big congratulations to Mariona Bolao Manen, whose creative writing was accepted for the 2024 convention!”
The Purple Patch editorial board gives annual Editor’s Choice Awards, with a cash prize for best poem, best visual artwork, and best prose genres. Awards will be presented at the 2024 Student Research Symposium.
