College to Celebrate Murrell Library Open House March 20
Murrell Library and Academic Support Center on the campus of Missouri Valley College is expecting a large crowd March 20 as it celebrates an open house showcasing nearly $450,000 in improvements and upgrades.
The event will be held from 2-4 p.m. Guests will be invited to tour the many new spaces, meet the staff, and engage with interactive demonstrations in the Valley Innovation Lab.
Samantha Perkins, assistant dean of library and academic support services, said the open house “offers faculty, staff, students and community members to explore newly enhanced spaces designed to support academic success, collaboration, and innovation.”
President Joe Parisi praised Perkins’ work shepherding the year-long project.
“This is really transformational,” Parisi said. “She has done an excellent job executing our vision and creating a one-stop shop for our academic support needs.”
Parisi pointed out that Perkins is also doing some groundbreaking academic work with new football Coach LaQuentin Black, that “will be a model for the rest of the campus.”
Perkins said the open house will showcase updated study areas, new furniture, and key academic resources including:
- Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning – An innovative hub designed to enhance teaching and learning through advanced technology, flexible spaces, and collaborative opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and the community.
- Valley Innovation Lab – Encouraging creativity and hands-on exploration, this space empowers students to experiment, design, and bring ideas to life.
- Group Study Rooms – Designed for students to collaborate, share ideas, and engage in discussions.
- Academic Coaching Center :
- Math Center – Support for all levels of math, from algebra to calculus.
- Reading & Writing Center – Help with essays, research papers, and reading comprehension.
- Study Tables – Drop-in study sessions with academic coaches covering a variety of subjects.
- Testing Center – Provides a secure and quiet environment for students to take exams.
- Collaboration Space—A versatile area designed to foster teamwork, brainstorming, and idea-sharing among students and faculty.
