Missouri Valley College Announces 2021 Scholars

Dr. Diane Bartholomew, vice president of academic affairs for Missouri Valley College, has announced the MVC scholar award recipients for 2021. To be named an MVC scholar, students must have a 3.3 GPA (3.8 for graduate students), must be graduating in the current academic year, and must be nominated by a faculty member. Nominations are reviewed, and winners are selected by the faculty in the area.  The Lamp of Knowledge essay winner will be announced the night of the event.

The following students will be recognized as MVC scholar award recipients: 

Hallie Hill, Accounting

Hallie Hill is from Woodlawn, Illinois and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Hallie is an accounting major with a minor in business administration. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s varsity volleyball team. She has also been on the Dean’s List the past two semesters. After graduation, Hallie plans to obtain her CPA.

Sadie Waldron, Agribusiness

Sadie Waldron is from Winterset, Iowa and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Sadie is an agribusiness major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the rodeo team. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was awarded the 2019 Frank Phillips Rodeo team Top Scholar. After graduation, Sadie plans to continue to do rodeo and work in agriculture. 

Nicole Rubio Beltran, Art, Graphic Design

Nicole Rubio Beltran is from Barcelona, Spain and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Nicole is a double major in art and graphic design. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s soccer team and completed an internship for the Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was the recipient of the Collective Dreams Award. After graduation, Nicole plans to return home to continue playing soccer and work in her field.

Julie DeBord, Art Education

Julie DeBord is from La Monte, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Julie is an art education major. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester. Julie is currently an art teacher in the Glasgow, Missouri school district and after teaching in K-12 for a few years, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in art.

Julio Tinoco, Biology, Pre-med/Pre-vet

Julio Tinoco is from Marshall, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Julio is a biology major – pre-med/pre-vet with a minor in chemistry. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the MVC powerlifting team and was awarded an internship with Baylor University. He has also been on the Dean’s List every semester, was an honors program student, and was a member of the Sigma Zeta National Science and Mathematics Society. After graduation, Julio plans to attend Kansas University Medical Center’s Graduate program for neuroscience.

Miroslav Markovic, Computer Information Systems

Miroslav Markovic is from Loznica, Serbia and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Miroslav is a computer information systems major. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the men’s varsity soccer team and was a resident assistant for residence life. He has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was a recipient of the NAIA Scholar Athlete Award. After graduation, Miroslav plans to play professional soccer and pursue a master’s degree.

Whitney Bean, Criminal Justice – Juvenile Justice

Whitney Dalynn Bean is from West Valley City, Utah and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Whitney is a double major in criminal justice – juvenile justice and sociology. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team. Whitney has also been on the Dean’s List from 2019 to present. After graduation, she plans to return to Utah and work at a juvenile detention center.

Noah Babiak, Criminal Justice – Law Enforcement

Noah Babiak is from Bullhead City, Arizona and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Noah is a criminal justice major with minors in psychology and forensic science. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the men’s golf team as well as Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He was also an  Alpha Lambda Delta First Year Success Society member. After graduation, Noah plans to continue to work with the Marshall Police Department.

Shalina Harper, Economics

Shalina Harper is from Uniontown, Kansas and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Shalina is an economics major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s basketball team and the art club. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was a scholar athlete. After graduation, Shalina plans to start her career as a financial advisor.

Bailey Tate, Elementary Education

Bailey Tate is from Dallas, North Carolina and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Bailey is an elementary education major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the rodeo team and part of the Student-Missouri State Teachers Association (S-MSTA). She has also been on the Dean’s List five consecutive semesters. Bailey has accepted a job as a fifth grade teacher at Tryon Elementary School and plans to pursue a master’s degree in educational administration.

Shanelle Tolley, Exercise Science

Shanelle Tolley is from Gold Coast, Australia and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Shanelle is an exercise science major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s basketball team and was an NAIA All-American as well as first team all conference. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester, was a member of the Honors Student Advisory Board as well as received the Guardian Fund scholarship. After graduation, Shanelle plans to return home to play semi-professional basketball and prepare to enter the Defense Force as an officer.

Elias Vaoifi, Finance

Elias Vaoifi is from Independence, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Elias is a finance major. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the men’s wrestling team, a two time All-American and was a member of the Missouri Valley Collegiate Ministry. He has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was a two-time Presidential Scholar. After graduation, Elias plans on pursuing another degree.

Sarah Spiers, History

Sarah Spiers is from Eastvale, California and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Sarah is a history major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams, vice president of Alpha Lambda Delta, Chair of the Honors Student Advisory Board and Vice President of MVC’s Historical Society. She is a member of Pi Gamma Mu, Alpha Chi and Alpha Delta honor societies. Sarah has also been on the Dean’s List, and received the Scholar Athlete Award and Presidential Scholar Award. After graduation, she plans to continue her education and eventually become a higher education educator.

Jordan Gresham, Interdisciplinary Studies

Jordan Kay Gresham is from West Haven, Utah and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Jordan is an interdisciplinary studies major. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s soccer team. She has also been on the Dean’s List since fall 2018. After graduation, she plans to seek employment.

Aidan Rahill, Management – Administration

Aidan Rahill is from Ardee, Ireland and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Aidan is a management – administration major with a minor in accounting. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the men’s varsity soccer team and was a resident assistant as well as a resident coordinator for residence life. He has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was a scholar athlete. After graduation, Aidan plans to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s in business administration. 

Briana “Bri” Prescott, Management – Sports Management

Bri Prescott  is from Moore, Oklahoma and came to Missouri Valley College in the spring of 2019. Bri is a management – sports management major. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the women’s volleyball team, a scholar athlete and on the Dean’s List. After graduation, Bri plans to attend school in Oklahoma to become a physical therapy assistant.

Milos Grahovac, Marketing

Milos Grahovac is from Hamilton, Canada and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Milos is a marketing major. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the men’s soccer team and was a recipient of the NAIA Scholar Athlete every year. He has also been on the Dean’s List each semester. After graduation, Milos plans to play soccer for two more years and then earn his MBA.

Anna Babiak, Mass Communication – Broadcast

Anna Babiak is from Orange County, California and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Anna is a mass communications major – broadcast. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. Anna was involved with the KMVC TV and radio station as well as received multiple MBEA awards. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was an honors program student, and a member of Theta Phi Alpha. After graduation, Anna plans to attend the University of Southern California to pursue her master’s in the school of communication and journalism.

Jaclyn Davis, Mass Communication – Strategic Communication

Jaclyn Davis is from Warrensburg, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Jaclyn is a mass communication – strategic communication major. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the women’s basketball team, Alpha Chi and Alpha Lambda Delta. She was also an NAIA scholar athlete, on the Dean’s List each semester and a Presidential Scholar. After graduation, Jaclyn plans to pursue a masters degree in communication.

Spencer Rankin, Mathematics 

Spencer Rankin is from Richmond, California and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Spencer is a mathematics major with a minor in economics. During his time at Valley, he has been a member of the baseball team. He has also been on the Dean’s List.

Talia Hutchings, Middle School Education

Talia Hutchings is from Lexington, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2018. Talia is a middle school education major in. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the powerlifting team, S-MSTA, and Alpha Lambda Delta and Alpha Chi honor societies. Talia has also been on the Dean’s List each semester at MVC. After graduation, she plans to teach secondary mathematics at La Monte High School.

Hannah Von Hagel, Mild/Moderate Cross Categorical Special Education

Hannah Von Hagel is from Sioux City, Iowa and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Hannah is a mild/moderate cross categorical special education major in. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the women’s soccer team, S-MSTA, Pi Gamma Mu, Honors Student Advisory Board, and MVC Historical Society, to name a few. Hannah has also been on the Dean’s List each semester and been a two-time NAIA scholar athlete. After graduation, she plans to teach K-5 special education within the Independence School District.

Savannah Land, Nonprofit Management, Human Services

Savannah Land is from Carrollton, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Savannah is a nonprofit management major with a minor in accounting. During her time at Valley, she was president of the Food Recovery Network, and NLA E-Board secretary and treasurer. Savannah has also been on the Dean’s List each semester. After graduation, she plans to seek employment in the Kansas City area working to help the homeless.

Skyeler Crutchfield, Nursing

Skyeler Crutchfield is from Laquey, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2016. Skyeler is a nursing major. During his time at Valley, he has been a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, SNA, a member and officer on the MVC Honors Student Advisory Board and co-founder of Geek and Nerd Quarters. He has also been on the Dean’s List each semester at MVC. After graduation, Skyeler plans to begin his nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Lebanon, Missouri in the emergency department before obtaining an MSN degree. 

Jocelin Linares, Psychology

Jocelin Linares is from Marshall, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2017. Jocelin is a psychology major. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the Honors Program and Alpha Chi. She has also been on the Dean’s List each semester at MVC and a Presidential Scholar. After graduation, Jocelin plans to attend graduate school, and eventually become licensed as a clinical psychologist. 

Ryan Albiani, Sociology

Ryan Francis Albiani is from Amador County, California and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2019. Ryan is a double major in psychology and sociology. During his time at Valley, he was a member of the football and baseball teams, a resident assistant and completed an internship at Great Circle. He has also been on the Dean’s List the past seven semesters. After graduation, Ryan plans to attend graduate school.

Logan Eden, Unified Science Education – Biology

Logan Eden is from Strafford, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2016. Logan is a unified science education – biology major. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the powerlifting, weightlifting and women’s volleyball teams and S-MSTA. After graduation, Logan plans to teach high school science at Wellington-Napoleon and coach middle school volleyball.

Kelsea Miller, Master of Arts in Educational Administration

Kelsea Miller is from Highland, California and came to Missouri Valley College in the fall of 2015. Kelsea is pursuing a master’s in educational administration. During her time at Valley, she was a member of the women’s golf team and went on to be the graduate assistant for the team. She is currently serving as interim head golf coach. She has also been on the Dean’s List every semester and was the recipient of the MVC Scholar Award for Elementary Education in 2019. After graduation, Kelsea plans to pursue her passion of teaching elementary school and continuing her education to pursue an education specialist degree.

Ariel Smith, Master of Arts in Community Counseling

Ariel Smith is from Marshall, Missouri and came to Missouri Valley College as an undergraduate in the fall of 2014. Ariel is a graduate student in the community counseling program. During her time at Valley, she has been a member of the graduate committee, on the dean’s list as an undergraduate student and maintained a 4.0 as a graduate student. After graduation, Ariel plans to become a licensed professional counselor and work with children.
