130 Applicants Seek Coveted Missouri Valley Football Coach Position
Missouri Valley College’s football tradition is evident – there have been only 12 coaches in that time span. Soon there will be a 13th.
After legendary Coach Paul Troth stepped down to take a different position at the college, more than 130 applicants from across the country have applied to be lucky 13.
A hiring committee led by President Joe Parisi and Athletic Director Mike Machholz has combed through the resumes and has begun evaluating candidates. Interviews are next week, and the committee plans to introduce the next head coach before Christmas.
“This is a pivotal hire,” Parisi said. “We’ve had so many passionate calls and emails from alumni and friends. And they all want one thing – successful football. That’s our goal here.”
This rare head coach opening has become one of the most sought-after positions in the country.
“This is a chance to build, restore, and generate pride,” said Machholz, who knows championship athletics having served as Missouri Valley’s head wrestling coach for nearly 30 years. “It’s a great opportunity for an energetic, passionate, individual committed to success.”
Parisi said the qualities of the new coach are pivotal. He said he and the committee spent significant time developing a list of “must-haves. This individual not only has to be a winner, but must be committed to every single person on the roster and their path toward graduation, a career, and a successful life.”
Missouri Valley College has numerous Heart of America Conference championships and trips to the NAIA championship series. MVC will continue accepting applications through December 8.
