Scholarships

A scholarship is money for college that you will not be expected to repay. Scholarships can come from many sources, including the College or an outside entity. A student is limited to scholarships not to exceed the cost of attendance. Institutional scholarships, in most cases, are not stackable. It is the student’s responsibility to provide the Financial Aid Office with information on all scholarships they expect to receive.

Study.com Student ScholarshipsVaries

Study.com has designated a wide variety of academic awards and scholarships for current and prospective students. These academic awards are geared toward people with ranging backgrounds, identities, and academic goals. The annual deadline for applications is November 1.

Conditions of Note

MVC academic scholarships are awarded to full-time (12-18hrs) incoming undergraduate students (excludes online) on the basis of a student’s academic record of GPA and ACT scores. All institutional scholarships are used for tuition, room, board and fees not to exceed cost of attendance. Online students are not eligible for Marshall campus institutional scholarships.

The generosity of alumni, friends, and churches allows Valley the opportunity to offer aid to many of our students. These Hall of Sponsors and Endowed Scholarships underwrite most of the institutional scholarships that MVC awards. The institutional scholarship package that an incoming freshman or transfer student accepts prior to the beginning of the first school year with MVC is the scholarship that the student will receive for up to 10 semesters of matriculation at the College, provided that they maintain the appropriate GPA required for their scholarship. The exception to this statement is the amount of award a student can receive for participation in athletics or talent programs can be adjusted to reflect performance or participation.

Institutional aid may be reduced if assistance is received by third parties. Students with half-tuition, full-tuition, or varsity scholarships are not eligible for any other institutional scholarships. Full-tuition scholarships and outside scholarships cannot exceed the cost of tuition for the academic year.

Any scholarship changes or additions need to be made prior to initial awarding. Students must notify admissions, prior to being admitted, of any scholarship qualifications.
