Twelve Missouri Valley College Nonprofit Management students attended the 2018 Alliance Management Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. The Alliance Management Institute is the only national conference designed to prepare 500+ college students for a career in the social sector.

For the second straight year, MVC students presented a poverty simulation to students from more than 30 colleges across the country as well as professional partners attending the conference. The presentation was in collaboration with MVC alumni and professional partners from the Missouri Valley Community Action Agency. Participating students included April Hennen, Payton Funk, D'Wayne Williams, Cornelius Dixon, Malik Collins, Vince Speers, Ashlyn Theus, Raven Nevels, Sarah Breshears, Leah Simmons, Kervin Morris and Taras Payne.

The Alliance Management Institute is packed with educational workshops, networking opportunities and career development activities. It also serves as a capstone experience for individuals receiving the Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential and is attended by upperclassmen, graduate students and professionals dedicated to building the capacity of nonprofit organizations.

A total of five MVC Nonprofit Management students were awarded their Certified Nonprofit Professional status. The MVC students that were awarded their CNP status include Leah Simmons, Taras Payne, Vince Speers, D'Wayne Williams and Cornelius Dixon. Cornelius Dixon was also recognized as the 10,000 CNP to be awarded nationally. MVC also had the first CNP to ever be awarded, Leroy Johnson, MVC class of 1950.

The CNP credential is the only national nonprofit credential preparing professionals, undergraduate and graduate students for leadership in the nonprofit sector. Students who complete a leadership development program at one of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s affiliated colleges or universities are awarded the credential and gain access to a network of nonprofit career resources.
