Viking Rodeo Teams Compete in Championship Round at CNFR

Marshall, Mo. (June 17, 2017)- Four members of the Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s rodeo teams competed in the championship round at the 2017 College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., Saturday evening.

 

For the men’s team, two Vikings competed in the championship round of steer wrestling.  Junior Ben Kilburg (LaMotte, Iowa) placed seventh with a score of 6.4, while Senior Fenton Nelsen (Iowa City, Iowa) placed ninth with a score of 7.4.  Nelsen placed fourth in the event standings, with a final average of 23.5, and Kilburg was sixth with an average of 24.2.  In bareback riding, Senior Matt Borton (Ostego, Mich.) placed ninth in the championship round with a score of 69.5.  Borton finished eighth in the event standings with an average of 281.5.

 

On the women’s side, Junior Kirbie Crouse (Gallatin, Mo.) finished with a time of 12.1 seconds in breakaway roping, to finish No. 10 in the championship round.  Crouse finished sixth in the event standings with an average of 30.1.  Crouse was the defending National champion in the event.

 

The men’s team placed No. 11 in the standings with 305 total points.  Panhandle State (Okla.) University was the men’s team National champion with 827.5 points.  The women’s team placed No. 12 with a score of 165.  Sam Houston State (Texas) University was the women’s National champion with 485 points.
