Athletic Training Students Receive National ScholarshipsPosted March 30, 2017
Katura Sales (pictured top), a senior athletic training student from Blackhawk, Colorado, and Ana Trost (pictured bottom), a junior athletic training student from Aurora, Colorado were selected as recipients of NATA Research & Education Foundation Scholarships for 2017. Katura received the Gary Delforge Scholarship while Ana received the Richard E. Vandervoort Memorial Scholarship.
The NATA Research & Education Foundation distributes endowed scholarships to select athletic training students who possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. These scholarships are considered the most prestigious in the field of athletic training. This year the NATA Research & Education Foundation distributed a total of 58 scholarships between doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate athletic training students across the United States. Katura and Ana were the only scholarship recipients from a Missouri athletic training program. This marks the third consecutive year an MVC athletic training student has received a NATA Research & Education Foundation Scholarship.
Katura was the president of the MVC Athletic Training Student Organization (ATSO) for the 2016-2017 academic year. She previously served as the ATSO Vice-President and Newcomer Representative.Katura received the MVC Athletic Training Program Newcomer of the Year award in 2015 and will be honored as the MVC Athletic Training Program Scholar on April 4. Additionally, Katura serves as a program representative for the Missouri Athletic Training Student Leadership Council. She will graduate this year with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and a minor in exercise science.
Ana is currently serving as the vice president and president elect of the ATSO. Ana received the MVC Athletic Training Program Newcomer of the Year award in 2016 and is a member of the MVC women’s basketball team. Ana is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in both athletic training and exercise science and will graduate in May 2018.
Katura and Ana are the fifth and sixth NATA Research & Education Foundation scholarship winners from MVC. Additionally, Katura is one of three athletic training students nationally receiving NATA Research & Education Foundation Scholarships in both 2016 and 2017.
