MVC Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Featured in Preseason PollsPosted August 20, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (August 20, 2014)- The 2014 season is set to begin later this month for the Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s soccer teams and both are featured in their respective preseason coaches’ polls. The Viking men’s soccer team enters the season ranked No. 15 in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll while the women’s team is in the “others receiving votes” category of the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll.
The MVC men’s soccer team is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history in 2013 that included a final record of 13-5-4 and the program’s first-ever National postseason victory. The Vikings have now been ranked in 44-consecutive coaches’ polls which is the fourth-longest active streak in NAIA men’s soccer.
The men’s soccer team will open its season on Aug. 30 at home against No. 12 Grand View (Iowa) University at 7 p.m. MVC will play a total of five teams ranked in preseason poll. The Vikings will play No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) University on the road Sept. 20, No. 5 Oklahoma Wesleyan University on the road Sept. 27, No. 13 Benedictine College at home Oct. 11 and No. 8 Baker University on the road Oct. 29.
The Viking women’s soccer team enters the 2014 season in the “others receiving votes” category in women’s coaches’ poll. This is the first time the women’s team has received votes since the Oct. 22, 2013 coaches’ poll. The women’s team finished 2013 with a final record of 11-5-3 and a second place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The women’s team will open its season on Aug. 30 with a game at Ottawa (Kan.) University. The Vikings will play three teams ranked in the preseason coaches’ poll, including No. 21 St. Ambrose (Iowa) University at home Sept. 14, No. 20 Ashford (Iowa) University on the road Oct. 7 and No. 24 Benedictine College at home Oct. 11.
