MVC Track and Field Finishes Competition at NAIA National MeetPosted May 24, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (May 24, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College outdoor track and field programs finished competition at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. The National meet began Thursday and lasts through Saturday. One Viking earned All-American status at the National competition.
Saturday, Senior Byron Evans competed in the triple jump and placed No. 9 with a distance of 14.59 meters.
Also competing Saturday was Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany) who ran in the women’s marathon and placed No. 10 in a time of 3:20:30
Friday, both Senior Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain) and Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) both competed in the 800 meter prelims. Franco finished with a time of 1:55.32 and Head finished in 2:13.58, however neither qualified for the event finals.
Also, Junior Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawaii) competed in the high jump but did not finish with a height reached.
One Viking competed at the National meet Thursday as Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) ran in the 10000 meter run. Cheruiyot finished the race in seventh place in a time of 31:14.35. Cheruiyot earned All-American status with his finish in the 10000 meter race.
