MVC Women's Wrestling Competes at Body Bar TournamentPosted May 19, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (May 19, 2014)- Members of the Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling team competed at the 2014 Body Bar Nationals in Irvine, Texas over the weekend.
Sophomore Samantha Higa (Aiea, Hawaii) competed in the 51kg weight class and earned a win in her first match over Kelsey Gray in an 8-6 decision. Higa lost in her second match of the tournament in an 11-3 decision to Bobbi Navarrete and she was eliminated in her third match after a 12-2 technical fall defeat to Emily Pinson.
Sophomore Christina Bautista (El Paso, Texas) also competed in the 51kg weight class and she picked up a victory in her first match of the tournament over Isabella Silva in a 10-1 decision. Bautista lost in her second match to Jordan Morrell in a second period pin and she was eliminated in her third match after losing to Alesha Zappitella in a first period pin.
Freshman Christina Powell (Atlanta, Ga.) competed in the 55kg weight class and lost her first match of the tournament to Cassidy Jasperson in an 11-0 technical fall. Powell came back to win her second match over Brittany Lopez in an 11-0 technical fall, but she was eliminated one match later after losing to Becka Leathers in a first period pin.
