MVC Men's Lacrosse to Play St. Johns at National TournamentPosted May 4, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (May 4, 2014)- The No. 20 Missouri Valley College men’s lacrosse team will play in the MCLA Division II National Tournament in Orange, Calif., May 12-17. The Vikings earned an automatic bid to the National tournament after defeating Washington University Sunday 8-7 in the GRLC Division II Tournament finals.
The Vikings have learned their opponent in the first round of the National tournament. MVC will be a No. 15 seed and play No. 2 seed St. Johns (N.Y.) University. St. Johns enters the National tournament with a 10-2 overall record and received an automatic bid by winning the UMLC tournament. St. Johns and MVC have played one common opponent, DePaul University. The Vikings split a pair of meetings with DePaul, losing a regular season game 10-11 but defeated DePaul in the GRLC Division II Conference Tournament semifinals by a 13-10 score. St. Johns defeated DePaul in a regular season game by a score of 17-3.
The Vikings, playing in the program’s first season, will enter the National tournament with a 15-1 overall record. MVC’s first round game is scheduled for May 12 at 2:15 p.m., and will be played at UC-Irvine Field 2 in Irvine, Calif.
