MVC Softball Gets Doubleheader Sweep in St. Louis

Marshall, Mo. (April 22, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College softball team picked up a road doubleheader sweep of St. Louis College of Pharmacy Tuesday evening on the road.  The Vikings won the first game by an 18-1 score and won game two 6-2.


The 18-runs scored in game one of the doubleheader is the most for the MVC softball program since defeating Fisher College by a 25-5 score back on March 15, 2006.


The Vikings were led in the two games by Junior Center Fielder Lisa Luna (Anaheim, Calif.) who finished four for six from the plate with a walk and seven RBI’s.  Also, Junior Outfielder Julianna Talancon (La Habra, Calif.) finished with two singles, two doubles and three RBI’s in the doubleheader.


Junior Pitcher Melissa Spanton (Sacramento, Calif.) picked up the win in game one while Senior Pitcher Ashley Cobern (Cleveland, Mo.) earned the game two win.


The Vikings improve to 5-23 with the wins while St. Louis College of Pharmacy falls to 5-19.


The Vikings will play against Wednesday when they host Peru State College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader.  Game one of the doubleheader starts at 2 p.m., at the Lyon Bowl at Indian Foothills Park.
