MVC Track & Field Gets Two to Nationals at the KU Relays

Marshall, Mo. (April 19, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College outdoor track and field program wrapped up competing at the KU Relays in Lawrence, Kan., Saturday. The highlights of the competition for MVC were Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) achieving a National qualifying time in the 800 meter run and Senior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.) achieving a National qualifying mark in the triple jump.

 

Thursday’s Men’s Results:

 

Senior Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain) competed in the 800 meter run and placed No. 15 in the unseeded race in a time of 1:55.58.

 

Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) competed in the 5000 meter run and placed No. 18 in the unseeded race in a time of 15:05.49.

 

Alexis Barbry competed in the 1500 meter run and placed and placed No. 16 in the unseeded race in a time of 4:04.35.

 

Junior Will Lee (Strafford, Mo.) competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase run and placed No. 19 in a time of 10:52.22

 

Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) competed in the 800 meter run and finished No. 2 overall in the unseeded race in a time of 1:53.87. Head qualified for Nationals with his time Thrusday.

 

Friday’s Men’s Results:

 

Senior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.) competed in the triple jump and placed No. 7 with a distance of 14.42 meters. Evans achieved a National qualifying distance in the event.

 

Freshman Markell Strickland competed in the 110 meter hurdles and placed No. 14 in a time of 15.66 seconds.

 

The 4x100meter relay team placed No. 20 with a time of 43.86 seconds. On the team were Freshman Lewis Owens, Freshman Cameron Carroll, Sophomore Bryton Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas) and Freshman Zhitavion Shelby (Kyiv, Ukraine).

 

Saturday’s Men’s Results:

 

Sophomore Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawaii) competed in the high jump and placed No. 18 with leap of 1.94 meters.

 

Thursday’s Women’s Results:

 

Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany) competed in the 1500 meter run and placed No. 14 in the unseeded race in a time of 4:49.55.

 

Friday’s Women’s Results:

 

Freshman Dorothy Adams competed in the 400 meter dash preliminaries and placed No. 26 in a time of 1:00.62.

 

Sophomore Brittany Brisco (San Diego, Calif.) placed No. 36 in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.93 seconds

 

The 4x100 meter relay team placed No. 20 in a time of 49.61 seconds. On the team were Sophomore Brittany Brisco (San Diego, Calif.), Junior Fanny Bertalan (Lyon, France), Freshman Dorothy Adams, Junior Santina Edwards (Pleasant Hill, Mo.).

 

The Vikings will next compete at the Wildcat Relays at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., Saturday.
