MVC Baseball Swept in Doubleheader at Baker Wednesday

Marshall, Mo. (March 19, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College baseball team went on the road to Baldwin City, Kan., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader at Baker University. The Vikings dropped both games of the doubleheader in tightly contested games, 6-3 and 8-6.


Leading MVC in the first game was Junior Catcher Anthony Corona (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) who went 1 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBI’s. Also, Sophomore First Baseman Zac Blakemore (Kansas City, Mo.) went 1 for 1 with an RBI. Junior Pitcher Branden Evans (Richmond, Mo.) picked up the loss for MVC, going 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.


Leading the Vikings in the second game of the doubleheader was Senior Centerfielder Bobby Warchuck (Wichita, Kan.) who was 3 for 5 with two doubles and 2 RBI’s. Junior First Baseman Josh Hartin (Washburn, Mo.) finished 2 for 4 from the plate with an RBI, while Corona was 1 for 2 from the plate. Freshman Pitcher Justin Ramsey (Alvin, Texas) picked up the loss going 3.1 innings with one strikeout.


The losses drop MVC to 3-13 overall and 2-2 in HAAC play. Baker improves to 9-8 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.


The Vikings will next play in Atchison, Kan., in a HAAC doubleheader against Benedictine College. First game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
