MVC Men's Wrestling to Host Regional Qualifying Tournament Saturday

Marshall, Mo. (February 20, 2014)-  The No. 3 Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team has wrapped up its regular season, and now sets its sights on postseason action.  Saturday, the Vikings will host the 2014 NAIA Central Qualifying Group Tournament, featuring 13 men’s wrestling programs.  Along with the third ranked Vikings, other ranked teams wrestling at the tournament include No. 1 Grand View (Iowa) University, No. 12 Oklahoma City University, No. 16 Bethany (Kan.) College and No. 19 Baker University.  Also, up to 44 individually ranked wrestlers will compete at Saturday’s tournament.


Twelve Vikings will compete at the regional qualifier in their respective weight classes.


Wrestlers must finish in the top four of their respective weight classes in order to qualify for the NAIA Wrestling National Championship Tournament.  In addition to those automatic qualifiers, a total of ten at-large berths will be awarded to wrestlers failing to finish in the top four.  The NAIA Wrestling National Championship Tournament will take place March 7-8 at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kan.


This Saturday’s 2014 NAIA Central Qualifying Group Tournament will start at 9 a.m., at the Burns Athletic Complex.  Admission to the event is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for students and children under eight years of age are free.
