Marshall, Mo. (February 17, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College’s top individually ranked wrestler picked up his third weekly conference honor of the season for his performance against NCAA Division II Truman State University last week. No. 1 Sophomore Jake Ekster (Houston, Texas) was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week following his 3-1 decision victory over NCAA Division II Ryan Maus.

Ekster picked up his third conference honor of the season, being named the Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 13 and Jan. 20, after helping MVC to a 31-17 victory over Truman State University, which ended the regular season for the Vikings.

Ekster improved to 17-2 on the season with the victory, and will enter the NAIA Midwest Qualifying Tournament as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 149 pound weight class. He will also be in the running for the NAIA Wrestler of the Week award, which will be announced Wednesday.

The MVC men’s wrestling team will host the NAIA Midwest Qualifying Tournament at the Burns Athletic Complex. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., Saturday at the Burns Athletic Complex.
