Repertory Dance Ensemble to Present Spring Production

Posted February 3, 2014

The Missouri Valley College fine arts department will present its spring Repertory Dance Ensemble concert Feb. 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.

The show features 10 MVC students and a variety of choreographers; choreographers include Janie Morgan, MVC associate professor of dance; Haley Hoss-Jameson, MVC instructor of dance; MVC Alumna Jessica (Schobe) LaRou ’10 and guest artists Jillian Davis and Sara Malan-McDonald.

Jillian Davis of Ballet Neo has studied extensively at the Princeton Dance and Theatre Studio, San Francisco Ballet and School of American Ballet. Davis’ professional performing experience includes work with Labayen Dance and Blue Scorpion Dance Theatre, both in San Francisco.

Sara Malan-McDonald is a freelancing academic, teaching a variety of classes throughout the greater Phoenix area. She is the founder of C3 Dance, teaching dance as a means of expression and healing to primarily under resourced youth.

“The mission of the Repertory Dance Ensemble is to give students an excellent concert dance experience and to bring dance to the local community,” Morgan said. “The students have worked very hard to prepare an excellent show. We’ve really enjoyed working with our two fabulous guest artists, and bringing back an MVC dance alumna to choreograph has been exciting for the students and for Jessica.

The show is free; donations received will be used to cover traveling costs for students attending the American College Dance Festival in Chicago in March. In addition, a question and answer session will be held following Friday night’s performance.

Ensemble members include:  Torey Miller of Carrollton, Mo.; Kelby Lawson of Carrollton, Mo.; Aubree Brooke of Belton, Mo.; Markeith Robinson of Jefferson City, Mo.; Rebeca Russi-Daolio of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil.; Aubrey Leah Rudd of Grain Valley, Mo.; Dyamond Ross of Merrillville, Ind.; Tea Mortensen of Greve, Denmark; Kelsey DeRousse of Desoto, Mo. and Robert Longboy of Mililani, Hawaii.
