MVC MEN’S VOLLEYBALL SPLITS MATCHES AT GRAND VIEW TOURNAMENT
Marshall, Mo. (January 31, 2014)- The No. 8 Missouri Valley College men’s volleyball team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for the Grand View Tournament. The Vikings split their two matches at the event. The Vikings opened with a 3-0 win over Graceland University, but lost to No. 6 St. Ambrose University 3-0.
MVC swept the Yellowjackets 25-19, 25-20, 25-19. The Vikings were led by Senior Middle Blocker Jake Haar (La Mesa, Calif.) who finished with 15 kills on 17 swings with no errors. Also, Junior Middle Blocker Zach Bumstead (St. Peters, Mo.) had seven kills on 10 swings with no errors. Senior Setter Will McCracken (Goleta, Calif.) had 35 assists for the MVC in the win.
The Vikings were defeated by St. Ambrose in the second match of the evening 27-29, 19-25, 22-25. MVC was led by Haar who had 12 kills, while Junior Outside Hitter Zach Brown (Plainfield, Ill.) finished with eight kills. Also, Freshman Opposite Lucas Wurr (Curitiba, Brazil) and Bumstead finished with seven kills apiece, while McCracken had 34 assists.
The Vikings moved to 9-3 on the season following the two matches.
Up next for the Vikings will travel to Lamoni, Iowa for a match with Graceland University Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
