MVC Men's Wrestler Earns Weekly Conference Honor

Marshall, Mo. (January 20, 2014)- The No. 3 Missouri Valley College men’s wrestling team finished second at the MVC Invitational over the weekend at the Burns Athletic Complex. For his effort in the event, Sophomore Jake Ekster (Houston, Texas) has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. This is the second-straight week Ekster has received the conference award.


Ekster finished 4-0 in his matches and won the 149 pound weight class at MVC Invitational, winning all four of his matches by pins. None of his four matches went beyond the second period.


Ekster is the No. 1 ranked NAIA wrestler in the 149 pound weight class, and improved his record this season to 16-1.  This is the second weekly conference award for Ekster during his time at Missouri Valley, with his first award coming last week. He will be the HAAC’s representative for the NAIA Wrestler of the Week Award.


The MVC men’s wrestling team will travel to a dual Wednesday at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Ill. The dual gets underway at 7:00 p.m..
