Morales Claims Second Weekly Conference Honor

Marshall, Mo. (January 20, 2014)- Missouri Valley College women’s basketball player, Senior Forward Gabi Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.) was named the HAAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Vikings to two conference wins last week, including a victory over a ranked opponent.


Morales led the Vikings in their 64-63 road win at Culver-Stockton College Jan. 16. Morales finished with a double-double scoring 26 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Morales sealed the victory for MVC, scoring on a three-point play with 18-seconds to play to give MVC the lead and the win.


In Saturday’s game against No. 23 Benedictine College, Morales finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Vikings pulled off the 65-59 upset on the road.


Morales now has eight double-doubles on the season, and picks up her second weekly HAAC award of the season, winning the first award in late November.


The MVC women’s team is 12-7 overall and 4-3 in the HAAC. The Vikings are tied for third place in the conference standings. Morales will be the HAAC’s nominee for the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Award.
