Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art
Merging her backgrounds in both 2-D and 3-D art, Valerie Wedel creates room-sized art installations which promote interactivity. As the primary intention of her work is to encourage self-awareness, she purposely blurs boundaries between artist, viewers and artwork, enabling viewers to become active participants. She exhibits in both solo and group shows as well as writes and lectures on art. In 2009 and 2011, the Missouri Contemporary Ballet featured her set design for the dance performance "Falling." Her degrees include: an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Missouri, a BA in French and Peace Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, and a BFA from Columbia College in Painting and Drawing. She has taught at the University of Missouri, Stephens College and Missouri Valley College.
